Man who intimidate­s, hurts sister lands in jail

A 46-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to eight months’ jail by a magistrate­s’ court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty for criminal intimidati­on and causing hurt to his sister.

The accused, Andria, faced the first charge for voluntaril­y causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code which provides for a maximum one year jail or with fine or with both upon conviction.

The second charge for criminal intimidati­on was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum seven years’ jail, or with fine or with both upon conviction.

He committed the offence on July 24 this year at around 8am at a longhouse in Belaga.

Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry sentenced the accused to serve eight months’ imprisonme­nt on each charge, with sentences to run concurrent­ly.

According to the facts of the case, the accused punched the victim on her eyebrow for her refusal t o give him money.

The victim then lodged a police report and the accused was later arrested on July 26 at around 11am at the longhouse.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Azham Marwan prosecuted the case.
