Be fair to govt agencies — Mayor Wee

-

KUCHING: The public ought to cooperate and be fair to government agencies and departments who are doing their best to serve the people.

Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said this in response to the recent fire incident that broke out at an under-construction apartment in Tabuan Dayak, Jalan Song here on Nov 21.

Wee felt that fair comments should be accorded to the police and fire fighting personnel who are doing their best to perform their duties.

“We want the people to be more understanding that they work 24 hours a day and are doing their best. Of course, when there is an incident in shortage of equipment and all that, the only way is to improve and not accuse them of not doing their duty,” he said.

Tropics City executive director Nicolas Wong who paid a courtesy call to Wee at his office at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) building here yesterday, expressed his satisfaction over the whole rescue operation by Bomba and the police.

“They came fast and at the same time the mayor (Wee) was also there, with a live video on social media to keep the public aware of the danger and we are here to give him a token of appreciation,” said Wong.

“We want to encourage this kind of public awareness, for the community to work together with government and local agencies.

“In any emergency cases, don’t panic and let the authorities do their job as they have the expertise in their own fields,” he added.

Wong later presented a token of appreciation to Wee and also the Sekama police personnel earlier on Thursday.

Also present were MBKS councillor Kho Wan Teck, Tropics City marketing executive Gary Wong and Wong’s personal assistant Ian Liew.
