Speaking at the symbolic launching ceremony at Paramount Hotel here, president of the Photographic Society of Sibu (PSS), Peter Lee, said the winning photographs will be put on exhibition.

“This competition aims to increase the understanding and knowledge of Sarawak’s unique and diverse culture as well as its’ nature abundance.

“This competition is divided into five categories, which are Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festivals. The cash prizes for each category is RM3,000 (1st prize), RM2,000 (2nd Prize), RM1,000 (3rd Prize) and 10 consolation prizes of RM200 each,” he said.

The contest is organised by PSS and is open to all Malaysians, with no entry-fees.

“Sarawak offers rich and unforgettable experience to everyone from the aspects of Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festivals (CANFF). It is the place where one is able to experience diverse culture, food and festivals of 31 ethnic groups,” he said on the theme of the contest.

Lee was elated to note that with the Heritage, Arts and Culture Facilitation Funds given by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) for the second time, which is led by Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, PSS was able to roll out the competition.

Towards this end, he said PSS is looking forward to collaborate with MTCP in the future to organise more photographic related events locally and internationally to uphold and promote Sarawak tourism.
