SIBU: Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak State Hockey Association and Sibu Division Hockey Association are joining forces in organising the ‘Hornbill Indoor Hockey League 2022’, to be staged on Bukit Lima Indoor Stadium here from Dec 2 to 4.

According to Sibu Division Hockey Association secretary Azmi Kadir, the league will host 49 men and women’s teams representing seven divisions of the state.

“The Kuching, Serian, Betong, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu sides have already conducted their respective preliminary rounds.

“For the finals, the teams will be divided into three age groups: Under-15 years (Boys and Girls), Under-17 (Boys and Girls), and Under-30 (Men and Women),” he said during the press conference on the league yesterday, where the divisional association’s deputy chairman Mohammad Razalee Hassan and treasurer Ibrahim Jahar were also present.

Adding on, Azmi said the indoor hockey league aimed to highlight good talents from Sarawak.

“It aims to help improve the skills of new and existing players, as well as the senior players who may not get much competitive training and experience due to lack of hockey competitions in Sarawak,” he said.

It is informed that SSC chief executive officer Morshidi Fredrick has been invited to officiate at the opening ceremony, while Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development I Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee is expected to declare the closing of the league on Dec 4.
