Izzat emerges runners-up at World Singles Champion of Champions
KUALA LUMPUR: National lawn-bowler Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple emerged runners-up at the World Singles Champion of Champions tournament in New Zealand yesterday.
The 30-year-old athlete from Perak bounced back from 3-12 down against England’s Sam Tolchard in the first set to win 6-4 in the second to bring the men’s singles finals into a tiebreaker.
In the decider Izzat, who is the two-time Asia Pacific Bowls Championships bronze-medallist (fours and pairs), went down 2-3 after a close fight to settle for the silver.
According to the tournament’s official website, Izzat ousted defending champion Lee Schraner from Australia in the semi-finals on Thursday, while Tolchard defeated Irish veteran Gary McCloy. — Bernama
