Principals, headmasters effective agents of change — Mawan

-

KUCHING: Principals and headmasters are effective agents of change in mainstream development, says Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) president Tan Sri William Mawan.

Mawan who is also Pakan assemblyman said they were very much needed especially in the interior to be the messengers of government policies and as catalysts of change.

However, elected representatives must reciprocate their services by being responsive not only to their needs but also to the community they live in.

“Principals and headmasters are not only the ‘eyes and ears’ of the government but are also playing the active role of agent of change,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from delegates of Persatuan Ibu-Bapa Komuniti Sekolah (PIBKS) Julau at his office here yesterday.

Mawan also hoped that principals and headmasters will not abuse their influence on the parents, teachers and students by imparting twisted facts or spinning government policies as that would defeat the purpose of their calling.

Elected representatives must also lend their ears to members of the teaching fraternity because they hold useful feedbacks and sometimes, carry with them the burdens of the people, he added.

During the courtesy call, Mawan gave a minor rural project fund of RM10,000 to PIBKS Julau delegates led by Zamarene Ruin.

Zamerene, who is also chairman of Julau District Headmasters Council, said their functions was similar to parentteacher associations.
