BESVA 2022 showcases Betong creatives

KUCHING: The Women Developmen­t Committee of Layar, Betong has recently worked with Bumi Kenyalang Media Club and Politeknik METrO Betong in making the Betong Short Video Competitio­n (BESVA 2022) a success.

The divisional level competitio­n themed ‘I Love Betong’ aimed to showcase talent among the creatives in Betong.

It was held from Oct 1 to Oct 31 and received 28 video submission­s from individual­s, government and corporate agencies, as well as higher education institutio­ns and schools.

During the award giving ceremony by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, held at Borneo Cultures Museum yesterday, the video entitled ‘Betong: A Silver Stepping Stone’ by Putera Hasif was announced winner of BESVA 2022.

The first runner-up went to Top Five Faves for their video entitled ‘The Epitome of Serenity: Betong’ while VJ Production was second runnerup for a video production entitled ‘I Love Betong the Place like No Other’.

Meanwhile, the jury’s Special Award went to YM Production for their video entitled ‘Betong Travel Trip’.

Head of Layar Women Developmen­t Committee Mangi Jabu said that BESVA 2022 is held as an opportunit­y for the community in Betong to showcase their creativity to a wider audience.

She added the competitio­n also introduces Betong’s wonderful attraction­s and culture through digital interpreta­tion.

“This is in line with the intention to foster enthusiasm and enhance skills among Betong creatives in the field of videograph­y,” said Mangi.

Prior to that, Rentap in his opening remarks emphasized that the state government has taken initiative­s towards establishi­ng digital economy in Sarawak.

Therefore, he urged people to equip themselves with digitalrel­ated skills so that it can help boost the state’s economic developmen­t.

“I would like to thank the committee for the amazing work that they have accomplish­ed in making this competitio­n a successful one and most importantl­y a platform to introduce Betong to the world,” he said.
