Fruits festival brings cheer to Sarikei folk

SARIKEI: The Sarikei Pineapple and Fruits Festival has put everyone in a festive mood over the weekend.

The crowds were seen patronisin­g over 200 trade booths along Jalan Central, Jalan Market and in parking spaces around Sarikei Central Hall here on its first day yesterday.

Among the participat­ing booths were the Agricultur­e Department with its exhibition on Agricultur­e and Food Industry; the Divisional Entreprene­ur Developmen­t Council and its ‘Sarikei Kitchen’; Sarikei Resident Office with its expo on ‘Digital Pavillion’; and the ‘Planetariu­m Exhibition’ by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Developmen­t.

Another crowd-pulling event yesterday was the blowpipe competitio­n in the compound of Sarikei Civic Centre, hosted by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entreprene­ur Developmen­t.

Repok assemblyma­n, who is also Sarikei MP Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii officiated at the festival’s launching ceremony yesterday evening.
