Man nabbed for traffickin­g after found in possession of 1kg Syabu

SIBU: A 40-year-old man could face the death penalty after he was found with 1.014kg of syabu here Saturday.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was arrested around 3pm in front of a public toilet at Lorong Salim here.

“Police inspection found a translucen­t packet containing substance suspected to be Syabu, weighing 1.014kg and worth RM36,000.

“His urine test came back negative for drugs,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Zulkipli said the suspect is being investigat­ed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides the death penalty, or life imprisonme­nt and caning, if convicted.

The suspect, he added, was remanded for seven days from yesterday to facilitate the investigat­ion.
