Op Samseng: Duo held for reckless, dangerous driving

SIBU: A traffic operation carried out by police here Saturday night saw the arrest of two individual­s for reckless and dangerous driving.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ operation at Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Sibu Town Square also saw summonses issued to road users for various traffic-related offences.

“The two arrested were aged 16 and 27.

They are being investigat­ed for driving recklessly and dangerousl­y under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement yesterday.

On the summonses, he said they were issued for offences such as not having a valid driving licence, fancy number plates, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust pipes, and driving without vehicle insurance.

Zulkipli advised members of the public to obey all traffic rules and regulation­s.

“Parents are also advised to monitor and be alert of their children’s activities so they will not get involved in illegal activities,” he added.
