MIRI: Three members of a family were unscathed after their four-wheel-drive vehicle veered off the road and into a river near Jalan Punang, Kampung Sungai Pangas in Lawas in the wee hours of yesterday.

Lawas Fire and Rescue station (Bomba Lawas) chief Azman Ibrahim said a team was rushed to the scene after a distress call was received at 12.28am.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported a Toyota Fortuner had slipped off the road into the river.

“The driver, who managed to get out of the vehicle on his own, was able to rescue his parents with the help of other villagers. No injuries were reported in the incident,” he said in a statement.

It is learned that the family was headed back home at the time of the incident.

Azman said the Bomba team used the winch from the fire engine to pull the SUV to shore, and the operation ended at 1.30am.
