SDNU, PPD hold Bahasa Iban SPM programme

Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu in collaborat­ion with the Sibu District Education Office (PPD)’s Iban Language Resource Pool held the ‘Academic Excellence Programme Bahasa Iban for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)’ on Saturday.

Taking place at SMK Sungai Merah here, the session was a ended by 80 students and 20 Bahasa Iban teachers from eight secondary schools in Sibu.

The objectives were to prepare the students for SPM and to provide exposure and guidance to students to use the correct and appropriat­e techniques based on the format when answering SPM examinatio­n.

Present at the programme were PPD Sibu officers Veronica Amis and Razali Suruji.

In her speech, Veronica thanked SDNU Sibu for contributi­ng financial assistance for the programme.

She hoped that the participan­ts would get a positive impact from the programme towards improving their academic performanc­e and having the motivation to continue mastering the Iban language.

Meanwhile, SDNU Sibu representa­tive Johnady Janton said the associatio­n hoped that such programme could be continued in the future for the benefit of the students, especially those taking Bahasa Iban for SPM.

He also suggested to teachers and also students having reached age 16 to register as SDNU members to obtain benefits, especially in their involvemen­t and contributi­on to the community outside school.

Among activities throughout the programme were talks, workshops and question-and-answer sessions.
