Minister happy over Sarawak hosting of international open bowling tourney
Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed his delight over Sarawak having staged the International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship 2022 here last week.
He said it had been an honour to host players from Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Australia and the Great Britain, apart from Malaysians.
The event took place at Megalanes Sarawak in Emart Batu Kawa here from Nov 22 to 26.
“This Championships is also honoured to have the participation of Dominic Barrett from Great Britain, the Brunswick Euro champion and current PBA major winner.
“I was made to understand that this championship had exhibited very impressive scores.
“Without a doubt, the latest techniques and skills were showcased in Kuching,” said Abdul Karim, also the state’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, in his speech for the closing ceremony late Saturday.
His text-of- speech was read by Senator Dato Ahmad Ibrahim, the deputy chairman of Padawan Municipal Council, who represented the minister at the event.
“I congratulate the Amateur (Tenpin) Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) for having successfully organised this event. We appreciate your continued sacrifices and endeavours in promoting the sport in Sarawak. Thank you for your selfless services and endless contributions towards organising such a splendid event.
“I also congratulate the winners and everyone who came. I am assured that all participants have savoured the privilege and experience of being a part of this significant event.
“And I am sure for those who did not win, the honour of participation itself should be a priceless reward. May Kuching and Sarawak be forever etched in your memories and with countless stories to tell when you return to your home country,” said Abdul Karim.
Also present were Youth and Sports Department Sarawak director Lamat Nyalau; Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Morshidi Fredrick; ABAS president Sunny Si, deputy president Shaifulbahri Shukri and vice-president Robert Lu; and Megalanes Sarawak manager Jackie Ting.
