Bernama wins five prizes at Terengganu media appreciati­on night

TERENGGANU: The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was named the winner of five prizes in three main categories at the Terengganu Media Appreciati­on Night on Sunday.

Reporter Balqis Jamaludin won Best News Award in the Digital Media Category, bringing home a cash prize of RM3,000 and a trophy.

Bernama also won the third and fifth prize in the same category through part-time journalist Noor Aznida Alias and bureau chief Shuhaida Mohd Said, respective­ly.

Noor Aznidas took home a cash prize of RM1,000 as well as a trophy, while Suhaida won RM500.

Part-time photograph­er Mohd Syafiq Ridzuan Ambak won the Best Photo Award in the Print Media Category and second place in the Best Photo Award in the Digital Media Category, bringing home a cash prize totalling RM5,000 and a trophy.

The prizes were presented by Terengganu State Assembly Speaker Datuk Yahaya Ali, who represente­d Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri, when reading out the speech text by the Menteri Besar, said the Media Appreciati­on Night, the second organised by the state government, was aimed at appreciati­ng the role and contributi­ons of media practition­ers in Terengganu.

He said it was important for media practition­ers to maintain their work ethics by reporting accurate and verified informatio­n, especially with today’s society depending on news reports from print, digital and social media sources.
