Duo plead guilty to housebreak­ing and theft, jailed 12 months

Two unemployed men were each sentenced to 12 months’ jail by the Magistrate­s’ Court here yesterday for committing housebreak­ing and theft.

Jekely Solon and Jarus Russia, both 28, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to a charge framed under Section 457 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code which provides a jail term of up to five years and also liable to a fine upon conviction.

They committed the offence at a house in Kuching City Mall, Batu Kawa around 3pm on Nov 14, 2021.

The court ordered their jail term to commence from the date of their arrest on Nov 16 this year.

Based on the facts of the case, a 26-year-old woman lodged a police report after discoverin­g her house had been broken into.

Among the items stolen were two purses containing cards and important documents, a pair of shoes, a laptop and a tablet. Total loss was estimated at RM5,000.

A check by police of a closedcirc­uit television (CCTV) camera installed at the house showed the duo committing the crime.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while the accused were unrepresen­ted by legal counsel.
