Meth possession lands man eight months in prison

The Magistrate­s’ Court here yesterday sentenced a man to eight months in jail after he pleaded guilty to possessing 0.15g of methamphet­amine.

Senior Assistant Court Registrar Sandy Yvette Freddy meted out the sentence against Mohd Halim Lim Abdullah, 51, and ordered his jail sentence to run from yesterday.

Mohd Halim was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonme­nt of up to five years or both, upon conviction.

He committed the offence at a roadside in front of Agro Bazaar at Jalan Kampung Buntal here at around 11am on Sept 28 this year.

Based on the facts of the case, he was detained by police on suspicion of involvemen­t in drugrelate­d activities, and handed over a plastic packet containing crystal lumps believed to be methamphet­amine.

A chemist report dated Oct 26, 2022 confirmed that the substance in the packet was methamphet­amine, weighing 0.15g.

The prosecutio­n was conducted by ASP Rogayah Rosli, while the accused was unrepresen­ted.
