SIBU: A longhouse chieftain from Nanga Dia in Kapit has added his voice to calls for Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi to be appointed a deputy prime minister (DPM).

“As a member of the Dayak community coming from a rural area, I feel that the community wants to be represented, included and recognised under this unity federal government.

“Apart from the DPM post, Nanta should also be given a portfolio such as Minister for Rural and Regional Development,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Kayan added that as an MP representing a rural area, Nanta would truly rural folks’ needs and wants.

In addition, he said Nanta was vastly experienced in politics, having been Kapit MP since 1999.

Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Petay Sibok from Machan in Kanowit said the Dayak community would be represented in the unity government should Nanta be made a DPM.

“The Malay and Melanau communities in Sarawak already have their representatives in the federal government.

“Why not give a chance to a Dayak?” Peter said.
