- James Ling

KAPIT: The Kapit Division Chinese Leaders Association (KADCLA) hails Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi is the most suitable candidate to be appointed a Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) to represent Sarawak and Sabah.

KADCLA chairman Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo said through Nanta’s appointment, it would help the state progress further so as to be on par with, if not better than, its counterparts the Peninsular Malaysia.

In this regard, he recalled the new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during his 15th general election (GE15) campaign drive, had spoken about how some parts of rural Sarawak and Sabah were ‘backward’ and lacked infrastructure development.

“We hope that he (Anwar) would remember what he had said earlier. We believe that by appointing Nanta as DPM cum Minister of Rural Development would expedite the development of infrastructure and amenities in Sarawak.

“Sarawakians, especially we from Kapit, are looking forward to the fulfilment of the promise of allocating one DPM post for Sarawak, (and) our chosen candidate is Nanta from the Dayak community to truly reflect multi-racialism. Also the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) must be adhered to and complied with,” said Tan.

In the federal cabinet prior to GE15, Nanta was the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. Other members of the KADCLA are Pemanca Yong Thu Fook,Pemanca Toh Tze Hwa, Penghulu Wong Kie Ing, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh, Penghulu Sng Chee Hun,Penghulu Lim Eng Hock, Kapitan Yiap Yii Hoo, Kapitan Ling Hung Pin, Kapitan Teo Tian Chai, Kapitan Yap Hui Li, Kapitan Kong Cheak He, Kapitan Lee See Fong, Kapitan Neo Kei Hoe (Kapit District), Kapitan John Kho and Kapitan Hun Hau Hui (Song District).
