Staircase artwork to attract more food enthusiast­s

The staircase artwork at the iconic Sibu Central Market which showcases local delicacies is set to attract more food enthusiast­s to check out the hawker centre.

According to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) market and petty traders standing committee chairman Cr Albert Tiang, the latest attraction is located at the main staircase opposite Jalan Market.

He added that the staircase is decorated with stickers depicting various mouth-watering local delicacies which visitors and food lovers can check out at level two of the market.

“It showcases local delicacies and (will) lead the visitors to the food haven at level 2 of the market.

“The staircase will be the new check-in point for people visiting Sibu and SMC wants to attract more people to Sibu Central Market to shop and patronise our hawker centre,” Tiang told The Borneo Post, when asked on the objective of the artwork.

Adding on, he mentioned that Nov 18 or ‘1118’ is National Hawker Day and in this regard, he pointed out that the staircase artwork is part of commemorat­ing the day in respect of all hawkers.

Among local delicacies showcased in the artwork include Kompia, Laksa Sarawak and Nasi Lemak.

For the record, the popular market currently has more than 1,100 hawkers.
