Sibu association organises competition to promote sumpit
A total of 30 players participated in the Sumpit Competition at Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku organised by EDOK Association Sibu last weekend.
Its chairman Zaidil Arip said that they collaborated with Koperasi Karjah Majid Darul Halim Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku to organise the event which also included gotongroyong and carnivals.
“The aim of the programme is to promote the community game such as sumpit.
Sumpit traditionally is from the Dayak community, but we do want to promote it as a game.
“We received very good response. We had players not only Sibu but also Sarikei, Julau, Selangau and so forth.
Not only that, the people from Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku also came out and watch the game and be part of this community event,” he revealed. Zaidil expressed the hope that this first tournament by EDOK Association Sibu would be continued next year.
