Malcolm and Maria jump into the lead at Eastwood Valley

Sarawak’s top junior golfer Malcolm Ting Siong Hung is leading the field on the opening day of the Sarawak Premier Cup 22nd Sarawak Internatio­nal Junior Golf Championsh­ip 2022 at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club here yesterday.

The Miri-born gold medalist at this year’s 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma), who is currently ranked 280th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), carded a 7 under par 65 in the Boys’ Special category to leave Indonesia’s Achmad Faini Nazaruddin trailing by 10 and Luke Van Moore 16 strokes adri .

In the Girls’ Special Category, Maria Rafaela Singson from the Philippine­s is leading with a 3 under par 69 ahead of Pang Hee Jie and Vanessa Chong from the Malaysia Amateur Ladies Golf Associatio­n (MALGA) who are trailing by three and seven strokes respective­ly.

The first two leaders in the other categories were Joaquin Ethan Hernandez of the Philippine­s with a 67 and Daryl Low of Singapore 68 (Boys A); Thailand’s Chulthida Seeman with 68 and Thitikarn Thapasit 71 (Girls A); Shinichi Suzuki of the Philippine­s with 69 and Athigun Vongpradit of Thailand 72 (Boys B); Sophia Lin of Chinese Taipei with 76 and Gemilau Joanne Kurnia of Indonesia 79 (Girls B); Bhumipat Changpradi­tcharoen of Thailand with 76 and Malaysia’s Mohd Danish Danial 78 (Boys C).
