Various activities lined up for state-level Tilawah Al-Quran

BINTULU: Various activities have been lined up in conjunctio­n with this year’s state-level Tilawah AlQuran, to be held here from March 15-18.

Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha told reporters recently that the 62nd edition of the event – to take place at Bintulu Civic Centre – would also be held in celebratio­n 60 years of Sarawak’s independen­ce.

He said a total of 37 participan­ts from Kuching, Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Bintulu and Limbang would take part in the programme, themed ‘Keluarga Malaysia, Pemangkin Kemakmuran’ (Malaysian Family, Catalyst of Prosperity).

“There will be 11 qari (male reciters) and eight qariah (female reciter) for the ‘tilawah’ (Quran recitation), as well as eight male reciters and 10 female reciters for the ‘hafazan’ (memorisati­on of verses) category. The top qari and qariah will each receive RM10,000 cash, trophy, certificat­e, an umrah package, as well as other prizes,” he said. For the ‘hafazan’ category, the winner of Category 1-20 ‘Juzuk’ (section of the Quran) will receive RM4,000, a trophy and certificat­e.

The champion in Category 130 ‘Juzuk’ will walk away with RM3,000, a trophy and certificat­e.

On March 16, the ‘hafazan’ session will be held in the morning, and the ‘tilawah’ in the evening.

On March 14, there will be a talk on ‘Membangun Generasi Al-Quran’ (Developing AlQuran Generation) at the BDA Auditorium.

Apart from that, Misnu said the ‘Ihya Ramadan’ programme would also be held involving Masjid Darul Ibadah Tatau, Masjid Darul Makmur Kampung Jepak and Bintulu Civic Centre. He said the Sarawak Islamic Affairs Office would also host a ‘Kayuhan Harmoni’ at the compound of selected mosques.

“There will be Al-Quran quizzes in the evening during the recitation, with attractive prizes awaiting the winners. There will also be an exhibition by various agencies themed ‘Glorifying the Quran’ during the four-day event,” he added.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the opening this March 15, while Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will present the prizes to the winners on March 18.
