Ramadan bazaar at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang to have 43 canopies

SIBU: A total of 43 canopies would be erected at the Ramadan Bazaar in Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here, starting March 20, said Taman Selera Harmoni Sibu Muslim Traders Associatio­n chairman Abdul Taib Rosli.

To be managed by the associatio­n, he said besides the canopies, the bazaar would also have 22 sites for barbeque stalls, and would operate from March 23 until April 18.

“The 43 canopies comprise 172 lots housing 73 traders. As for the 22 sites for barbeque stalls, there will 10 traders operating. In total, there are 83 traders who will be trading at the bazaar.

“There will be 194 stalls, comprising 172 food and drink stalls, and 22 barbeque stalls,”

Abdul Taib told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He also spoke about the dialogue held between traders, the organiser, Ministry of Health (KKM), Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) on March 11.

“During the dialogue, KKM and SMC emphasised to traders on the importance of maintainin­g a high level of cleanlines­s and hygiene and on food handling throughout the duration of the bazaar.

“The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, on its part, had stressed that price tags must be displayed for every food and drink item to keep consumers informed,” said Abdul Taib.

He pointed out that the Ramadan bazaar would be inspected and monitored by the relevant agencies on cleanlines­s and quality of food and beverages as well.

“A variety of interestin­g activities will also be rolled out by the organiser to attract more visitors.

“And with the monitoring by the (relevant) government agencies, this will go a long way towards giving confidence to visitors to frequent the bazaar,” he opined.

Chairperso­n of SMC Social and Community Developmen­t Standing Committee, Councillor Zaiton Abdul Kader, was also present at the recent dialogue.
