Cargo terminals and logistics facilities among topics discussed during Mavcom visit
Expanding and upgrading Kuching and Miri cargo terminals and logistics facilities were among the topics discussed during a courtesy visit by officials from Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) to Sarawak Ministry of Transport yesterday.
Welcoming the Mavcom delegation, led by its executive chairman Datuk Sri Saripuddin Kassim, at Baitulmakmur Building in Petra Jaya was the state Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
In a statement, the Ministry of Transport Sarawak said proper air cargo terminal facilities were essential for efficient air logistics and costeffective air freight services.
“With the growth of ecommerce, especially online business around the region, air logistic operation must be efficient and plays a vital role in supporting various economic activities in Sarawak,” said the statement.
Among the matters discussed were airfares, especially during festive seasons and school holidays; international air connectivity to Sarawak; upgrading of Kuching International Airport facilities, especially the international departure lounge; and extension of Miri Airport terminal, including upgrading of existing facilities.
Lee, meanwhile, said the visit by the federal officers would bring about better understanding of the situation on the ground in Sarawak.
“This is necessary if we need to resolve important issues, especially on transport matters such as road and aviation,” added Lee.
The main purpose of the courtesy visit was also to establish close rapport with the Sarawak Ministry of Transport and the state government in general.
“A good relationship is vital to efficiently facilitate and resolve issues related to air connectivity and aviation regulations in Sarawak,” said the ministry.
Among those present at the courtesy visit here was federal Transport Ministry secretarygeneral Dato Jana Santhiran.
