MIRI: The Lions Club International 308-A2 will be implementing two projects in the districts here as an effort to reach out to the needy people – through education and healthcare.

Its District Governor Kapitan Ronnie Hiew revealed that the first project would be providing RM275,700 worth of history reference books to needy students studying in Form 4 and Form 5.

The reference books contribution will benefit over 6,000 needy students, as they consist of concept facts, ideas and important notes presented in attractive form with colourful visual maps and diagrams.

“Our second project – Lions in Action - will happen next year from Jan 18 to 20, where two Lions teams will raise awareness and carry out projects in diabetes, vision care, the environment, hunger, childhood cancer, besides expanding Lions membership.

“While we are executing charitable causes, we believe these projects help in team building, and we certainly encourage fellow members to have fun while on it, and to establish fellowship with Lions members in various places,” said Hiew in his speech when officiating the joint installation and induction ceremony for the 2023-2024 term of Lions Club of Miri Mandarin, Lions Club of Batu Niah, Lions Club of Lambir Miri and Leo Club of Riam Road Secondary School at a leading hotel here last Friday (Sept 8).

He highlighted the importance of expanding Lions Club service, by broadening vision and having foresight.

“As members of the Lions Club, we must possess the ability to keep up with the times, continuously learn, self-improve and enhance our personal value. We can no longer rely on yesterday’s methods to achieve tomorrow’s and the future’s goals, instead we should employ new thinking and new approaches,” he said in his advice to fellow members.

Having said that, he also emphasised the importance of striving for transparency in all club’s affairs and activities, while reminding members to cooperate sincerely, respect each other, prioritise fellowship and show greater care for members including new and inactive members.

“With these practices, members will undoubtedly enjoy the pleasures of the Lions’ Club family and actively engage in creating positive change for the community,” he added.
