BIS bazaar celebrates global diversity through food, art

-

KUCHING: Borneo International School (BIS) held its International Day Bazaar last Saturday which transformed the campus into a vibrant celebration of global diversity and festivity.

Food stalls were set up across the school grounds offering mouth-watering food from across the continents, while food trucks added an extra layer of excitement to the bazaar.

The celebration was not limited to just food as it embraced the rich tapestry of cultures through various forms of art and entertainment.

Talented student artists transformed faces and hands or arms into stunning works of arts with intricate design and vibrant colours.

Henna art – a symbol of ancient traditions – allowed the guests to adorn themselves with beautiful temporary tattoos.

There were also artisan sourdough breads and chocolate brownies made by parents, mini spa, as well as Bidayuh artefacts and handicrafts and nursery plants for sale.

To top things off, carnival games added a touch of nostalgia and excitement with participants trying their luck in various challenges and games.

“Our International Day Bazaar theme was ‘Travel the world with Borneo International School’, and so we had the students ‘adopt’ a country for each class to showcase it unique food and culture,” said Borneo International School director Mark Tan.

He conveyed his gratitude to the students, staff, parents and the wider community for their unwavering support in attending and joining in the bazaar.

“Equally important, it allowed our students to develop their soft skills – character building, responsibility, teamwork, leadership – and expanding their horizons beyond the classroom,” he added.
