KL kegler Cheah on top at Sarawak Int’l Open C’ships
Cheah Yung Ren of Sunway Megalanes team clinch the open title at the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships 2023 which ended at Megalanes Sarawak, Emart Batu Kawa, on Saturday.
In a thrilling ‘Last Man Standing’ showdown, Cheah fell 184 pins to overcome Ahmad Azriq Izamuddin (Malaysia) who recorded 171. Finishing third and fourth were Tsen Fan Yew (Malaysia) and Haron Awang (Singapore) respectively. The top four pocketed cash prizes of RM20,000, RM10,000, RM5,000 and RM2,500.
“Of course I’m happy with this success. During the finals I didn’t really think too much. Every pin counts,” said Cheah who is from Kuala Lumpur.
Local kegler Bong Kihow representing ABAS emerged as champion in the Classified category followed by Chang Hsiang-Yu (Taiwan) and Muhammad Hazim Alihanafiah (Malaysia).
Top finishers in other categories were Wan Muhammad Zarif Ikram Wan Mazlan (Malaysia), Nabil Aiman Mantaib (Sabah) and Vilinkorn Kledkaew (Thailand) in U25 Masters; Nelson Young Wah Seng, Hairon Awang and Rick Tan (all Singapore) in Men’s Senior; Datin Zarina (Malaysia) and Datin Rakia’ah Ali (Sarawak) in Women’s Senior; Syed Azfar Danial Syed Shaiful Ezam (Malaysia), Nutavat Rasusetkun (Thailand) and Muhammad Raul Haikal Mandra Raman (Malaysia) in Boys Under18; Nur Jeehan Iezzaty Suffian (Malaysia), Mandy Koh Mun Leng (Singapore) and Sarawak star female kegler Lavinia Kho Jia Jie in Girls U18; Muhammad Adam Darwish Dzulhakimy, Muhammad Hafiz Darwisy Azhlan and Wan Muhammad Zarif Ikram Wan Mazlan (all Malaysia) in Boys U15; Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee (Malaysia), Dhia Irdina Zahra Mohd Hazrin (Malaysia) and Claudia Kumang Jakson (ABAS Sarawak) in Girls U15; Gerald Ethan Tony (ABAS Sarawak), Joses Ivan Tony (ABAS Sarawak) and Daryl Emmanuel Sim (Singapore) in Boys U13; Nur Fathi Fatihah Mohammad Zakry (ABAS Sarawak), Arwynn Galleina Arthur Ray (ABAS Sarawak) and Nurul Iman Batrisya Mohd Fadli (Malaysia) in Girls U13.
The prize presentation was officiated by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu. Also present were Sarawak Sports Corporation CEO Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, Sarawak Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association (ABAS) president Sunny Si Poh Heng and vice president Robert Lu Nam Min.
