Sagah: Colloquium good platform to uncover educators’ talent, excellence
MIRI: The implementation of the Action Research Colloquium in Education has provided another good platform for improving the quality of performance in the academic field, especially the curriculum to improve the quality of academic achievement in various subject areas in the state.
Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the colloquium is a forum for uncovering educators’ abilities, potential and excellence to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
“This Action Research Colloquium in Education not only improves the quality of teaching and learning among educators but also becomes the basis for a noble effort to cultivate the practice of implementing action research in the classroom as a common practice of educators in the Land of the Hornbills,” he stated when officiating at Sarawak-Level Action Research Colloquium in Education at Pustaka Miri yesterday.
Rolland’s text of speech was read by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent
Development’s Education Division principal assistant secretary Donald Henry Nohed.
He pointed out that the 21st century has made the world more challenging with a technological boom due to today’s Industrial Revolution of 4.0.
“We cannot avoid and even have to face the tide of globalisation through educational methods relevant to current norms.
“Therefore, a paradigm shift must be done to increase positive perception, especially towards this field of Technical and Vocational
Education and Training (TVET) education.”
He stressed that TVET education needs to be seen as a full path to produce human capital that is highly skilled, knowledgeable, innovative, and able to face competition and risks at the global and regional levels in line with current needs.
To achieve this, he said the school must serve as a centre of thought that produces wellrounded students from the physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual aspects and should
be more flexible, adaptive and innovative in facing the current globalisation.
He strongly emphasised the need for educators to prepare themselves with the mind and knowledge of new technology to be more prepared with the character of the millennial generation, who are intimate with technology.
He hoped the colloquium could be a sharing platform for action research results and innovations in school management and leadership in line with the demands of current norms.
He urged educational leadership lines to always be sensitive and aware of the changing times and be able to adapt to the current situation by building a new framework that is more relevant.
On the event, he said it was the first time for the Miri Vocational College (KV Miri) coordination unit, research cultivation and action studies to organise such a scholarly programme promoting education, especially TVET education in the state.
“Such events need to be continued and intensified to ensure that the success and quality of vocational college graduates can be displayed through the success of educators in the field of research.
“I also hope that the excellence of KV Miri can continue by organising various forms of academic and co-academic competitions to inject motivation and improve the performance of educators and scientists in Sarawak.”
Also present were KV Miri director John Atong and Miri District education officer Mariam Monek.
