Sabah’s Rafiq, Kedah’s Amberly top KGS Junior C’ships

Mohd Rafiq Anugerah Ali of Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) and Amberly Zaria Zamri of Royal Kedah Golf Club were crowned as overall champions of the 2nd KGS Junior Open Golf Championsh­ips at Kelab Golf Sarawak last Sunday.

Mohd Rafiq shot a three-day total of six-over par 222 in the Boys A category to lift the Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Muloon Chan’s Challenge Trophy.

Cayden Kong Ze Wen of Kelab Golf Miri (KGM) failed to defend the title he won in 2019 in finishing second, 10 strokes behind while Abang Al Qayyum of KGS was third on 237 strokes.

Andy Chew Kok Siew of KGS wrested fourth place after beating Nicholas Foo Beng Ern of Penang Golf Club on countback (OCB) after both returned a similar 246.

Joshua Lim Zhi Xing from KGS claimed the Boys B title after firing an eight-over par 224 to beat Sri Raam Palana (231) of KGM, Ezekiel Riz Hafi Suzearitz (232) of BJGCC, Azka Azfar Saiful Azhari (238) of MGA Junior Golf and Dylan Zayden Darius of Kudat Golf Club.

Meanwhile, Amberly won the Girls B title after returning a three-day total of 244. That score was good enough for her to walk away with the Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Muloon Chan’s Challenge Trophy.

The Royal Kedah junior beat Girls A champion Abigail Kedung Pearson by two strokes. She picked up another prize after firing an eagle at Santubong Hole 13.

Ho Yunxi of KGS was second with a 251 while Angelina Hwong Hutchinson (267) of Sabah Golf and Country Club finished third.

Other winners included Sebastian Zane Fong of KGS (Boys C), Rajveer Tarang Singh (Boys D), Bernice Hwang Ee Xuan (Girls C) and Joyanne Qaisara (Girls D).

A total of 80 players representi­ng Kelab Golf Sibu, Kelab Golf Bintulu, Kelab Golf Miri, Sabah Golf & Country Club, Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club Sabah, Kelab Golf Kudat, Labuan Internatio­nal Golf Club, Tunas Bustari Academy Selangor, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, MGA Junior Golf Club, Penang Golf Club, Royal Kedah Golf Club, Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Club and SMK Tebakang took part in the threeday tournament. .

Event patron Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon Chan gave away the main prizes.

Also present was Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Datuk George Chan Hong Nam, KGS deputy president Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahman, captain Ting Kee Suen, junior developmen­t programme chairman Eric Lee and general manager Terence Lee.
