Over 1,000 take part in Bulan Merdeka celebration at Kapit Sports Field
KAPIT: The Community Development Department (Kemas) Kapit yesterday held a ‘Sambutan Bulan Kemerdekaan’ (Independence Month Celebration) 2023 at Kapit Sports Field, Jalan Padang here, which gathered over 1,000 people from Kapit and Song districts.
Kapit Kemas officer Leena Tero said this programme served as the highlight of the ‘National Month’ programme for Kapit parliamentary constituency, covering Kapit and Song districts.
She said various activities had been run earlier at the Tadika (Kindergarten) Kemas.
“Among them were creative inventions from recycled materials, reciting Rukun Negara (National Principles), a Malaysia Day 2023 poster competition, fancy dress show, and a host of traditional games.
“These activities were participated by representatives of 47 Tadika Kemas in Kapit and Song, over 1,000 participants comprising 800 pupils, Kemas staff, and also the children’s parents,” said Leena.
When met, one of the parents Irrwandy Tugor, who is also chairman of Tadika Kemas Kampung Baru, described the programme as ‘timely’, in view of it being held a day before the Malaysia Day celebration today.
“Upon invitation from Tadika Kemas Kampung Baru, I happily joined this parade. It is interesting to see children from every corner in Kapit, coming together and dressing up creatively to commemorate Malaysia Day.
“Obviously the parents and tutors played a prominent role in the parade with all sorts of creativity. I am impressed with the children for being able to socialise among one another freely without barriers.
“This is the spirit of unity among the young generation,” said Irrwandy, who is a Fire and Rescue officer.
TR Angking said he joined the programme because his grandchildren were involved in the parade. He shared that it was fun to see young children happily involved in such activities.
Deputy Kapit Kemas officer Patrick Gong, Kemas supervisors Kemarau Kubu and Mala Sugit were also involved in the programme.
