Sarawak-West Kalimantan to enhance bilateral ties

KUCHING: Business communitie­s in Sarawak and their counterpar­ts in West Kalimantan, Indonesia are encouraged to organise regular working visits which can promote better rapport and bilateral relatiions between the two parties.

This was mentioned by the Governor of West Kalimantan province, Indonesia, Dr Harisson MK during the welcoming dinner which was held in conjunctio­n with the working visit by Sarawak-based company BMAS Holdings Sdn Bhd to Pontianak, West Kalimantan on January 8 to 12.

According to the governor, there are a host of benefits in establishi­ng good bilateral trade and business relations among the business communitie­s in Sarawak and their potential partners in the Indonesia’s province in Borneo.

The benefits may include opening of new markets for the business communitie­s which will enhance economic opportunit­ies and strengthen trade relations.

“There are a lot of business opportunit­ies to be explored and we welcome the business communitie­s from Sarawak to venture here in West Kalimantan,” said Dr Harisson in his text of speech which was read by Drs Ignatius IK, West Kalimantan’s Head of Provincial Communicat­ions who represente­d the governor during the welcoming dinner held at Gajah Mada Hotel in Pontianak.

Meanwhile, the founder and executive chairman of BMAS Holdings Sdn Bhd, Anderson Dato Paran in his welcoming speech had mentioned that his company had plans to expand its business operations to major cities in West Kalimantan especially in the new capital city of Nusantara.

According to him, one of the group’s subsidiari­es, Borneo MA Smart Vendors Sdn Bhd (MAS) is dealing in the vending machine business and over the past two years it had already establishe­d its branches in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The week-long working visit to Pontianak and other parts of West Kalimantan is part of the company’s efforts to explore smart partnershi­ps with others in Borneo region which will boost its regional business operations in the near future.
