Students participate in ‘Just Spike IT Volleyball Academy 1.0’
The Putra Bakti ‘Just Spike IT Volleyball Academy 1.0’ programme will be able to produce ‘thinking athletes’ among participating students, said programme facilitator Roslan Ismail.
The programme organised by the students of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) was attended by some 60 local primary school students here at SK Kidurong II from March 2 to 3.
“This programme was aimed at identifying young talents among primary school students.
“The thinking athletes are not only capable of improving the performance and achievements of the country’s sports, but can also form an attitude of professionalism that can be emulated by others,” said Roslan in a statement.
During the programme, participants were treated to lectures on the basic techniques of volleyball with other physicalcentric games to help strengthen their foundational knowledge and skill sets focused on improving their gameplay.
Additionally, the theoretical and practical segments of the programme concluded with a tournament among the participants to test their understanding and skills.
The programme was conducted by experienced speakers and coaches in volleyball such as teacher Welly from SK Kidurong II and teacher Nur Sufiana Mohd Sith from SK Sri Simalajau Bintulu.
The opening ceremony was officiated by SK Kidurong II headmaster Rozalani Raini and UPMKB Student Management Office administration head Mohamad Syukri Mohamad Adnan.
Also present at the event was UPMKB Student Management Office senior psychologist Hairunisah Abdul Rahman, Department Science and Technology head Dr Wan Nor Zanariah Zainol @ Abdullah, and Department of Social Sciences and Management teaching fellow Dr Abdul Hadi Samsi.
