Kanowit Community Club Kuching plans to hold anniversar­y dinner in September

KUCHING: The Kanowit Community Club Kuching (KCCK) plans to hold its eighth anniversar­y dinner this September.

According to its chairman Gerard Joseph, the tentativel­y set date is Sept 28.

“The venue is to be confirmed later,” he said in a statement yesterday, issued in connection with the announceme­nt of the club’s office-bearers for the 20242026 term.

KCCK held its annual general meeting (AGM) at a hotel here last Saturday, where the election for the new office-bearers also took place.

Thadeus Ling Allu, the appointed returning officer for the election, announced the results.

Gerard remains the chairman, serving his second term.

Others in the 2024-2026 lineup are deputy chairman Petrus Basik, a new face replacing Ambrose Jarat; secretary Gat Belabot who has retained the position since the establishm­ent of KCCK in 2016; assistant secretary Mela Berangka, another new face who replaces Angelyna Inya Ronald; treasurer Christina Umpi who replaces Kennedy Aben; as well as ordinary committee members Jimmy Badar who has retained the position, and Sandin Sliong who replaces Mabong Unggang.

Petrus Igat Matthias, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, is KCCK chief advisor.

Meanwhile, another political secretary Maurice Giri, a member of Sarawak Public Service Commission Dr Robert Menua Saleh, past KCCK chairman William Baja Jap and Helbert Ubong Ngumbang are the appointed advisors for the 20242026 term.

National Unity Minister and Kanowit MP Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, as well as assemblyme­n Anyi Jana (Ngemah) and Allan Siden Gramong (Machan) are the club’s patrons.

It is informed that KCCK has 146 registered members.

“There are still many Kanowitian­s (Dayaks from Kanowit) working or living in Kuching who have yet to join KCCK.

“The life membership fee, as approved and agreed upon during our last AGM, is RM20 per person,” said Gerard.
