- Philip Wong

SIBU: Sibu Division Lawn Tennis Association (SDLTA) has embarked on a series of programmes to boost the popularity of the sport.

Newly-minted vice-president Brandon Wong said top on the list is the junior development programme which will roll out a clinic at SDLTA tennis courts at Bukit Lima from 7.30am to 11am on April 6.

“So long as you have an interest in tennis, all are welcome to come for the programme, irrespective of your age or background,” he said.

The programme covers tennis instruction, stamina exercise, eye coordination, movement, basic tennis technique, free-play and mini game.

Wong said SDLTA is serious in building a bigger base for the sport so that there will be a bigger pool of players.

“That is why we have our junior training programme in the morning and also in the evening as a way to attract more players to join us,” he explained.

The Sibu Closed Tennis Championship will be held at end of April and players will be selected to represent Sibu for the state-level tournament.

Meanwhile, the entire committee of SDLTA, which held its recent annual general meeting, are new faces.
