Selangor Sultan attends Yayasan MRCB ‘buka puasa’ event
PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, attended a breaking of fast event organised by Yayasan MRCB at the Tengku Kelana Jaya Petra Mosque, here Wednesday.
His Royal Highness, accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin arrived at the mosque at 6.30pm.
Also in attendance were Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil; Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; MRCB chairman Datuk Mohamed Nasir Ab Latif and Yayasan MRCB chairman Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng.
The event began with Sultan Sharafuddin personally handing out ‘duit raya’ to 300 asnaf and single mothers from Persatuan Rumah Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim dan Ibu Tunggal Hajah Kamariah.
The Selangor Sultan also presented cash donations to 200 orphans in the Petaling district. MRCB executive vice-president Datuk Ishak Mohamed in his speech said the event was held to provide the asnaf, orphans, special needs children and single mothers in Selangor with the opportunity to experience breaking the fast with Sultan Sharafuddin. He also said Yayasan MRCB, established as the charitable arm of Bumiputera conglomerate Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), is committed to funding programmes in various aspects, including education, community welfare, impoverished communities and healthcare.
“As of today, Yayasan MRCB has implemented 80 programmes involving approximately 200,000 recipients from the B40 category,” he said.
After breaking their fast, Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin then performed the Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers with the congregation at the mosque.
