Group seeks media assistance in helping people with addiction

-

The Organisation for Addiction Prevention Treatment and Rehabilitation (Oaptar) is seeking assistance from the media in helping people with addiction prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

The president Cindy Biding says Oaptar consists of people concerned about addiction in the local communities and they also want to work in partnership with relevant agencies to help address the problem, apart from the media.

“We are a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to building resilient communities through comprehensive prevention and capacity building initiatives.

“This year, we proudly celebrate our four years of impactful work in Sarawak, as well as at national and international levels,” she said in a speech for the ‘buka puasa’ (break-of-fast) event hosted by the organisation at a hotel here on Thursday.

She added that over the past four years, Oaptar had spearheaded many initiatives aimed at capacity-building among prevention and treatment providers, which included equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively address substance abuse in their communities.

“Through our training sessions and workshops, Oaptar has empowered hundreds of professionals and practitioners to deliver quality standards prevention and treatment interventions to those in need,” she said.

Cindy also said Oaptar had been recognised as a trusted training provider by the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme, a testament to its commitment to excellence in education and professional development.

“The Universal Training Materials developed by the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme are curated by a team of experts in the field, ensuring that training participants receive the highest quality resources and instruction available.

“Oaptar’s flagship initiative is also its school-based prevention programme which includes the successful Healthy Lifestyle Programme for primary schools and the Wellness Champion Programme for secondary schools.

“These programmes focus on skills buildings and resilience building activities, empowering students to make healthy choices and resist peer pressure,” she said.

Looking ahead, Cindy said Oaptar would remain committed to its mission of building resilient communities and empowering individuals to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

Through continued collaboration with stakeholders and partners, she added, Oaptar would work tirelessly to expand its reach, amplify its impact and create sustainable change in communities.
