-

LUMPUR: The Semarak Syawal Agro Madani sale programme, which kicked off on Wednesday, will continue to run until close to the Aidilfitri celebration, said Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri.

According to him, the sale programme is being held at 753 Fama marketing outlets such as farmers’ markets, Agrobazaar Rakyat outlets and Rural Transformation Centres (RTCs).

The national-level Semarak Syawal Agro MADANI sale is being launched today at the Taman Sri Andalas farmers’ market in Klang, Selangor, by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

“The programme provides opportunities for entrepreneurs to increase their income in conjunction with the Aidilfitri festive season and allows consumers to buy essential items at reasonable prices. It also shows that agro-food supplies are sufficient.

“In addition to fresh items such as meat, chicken and vegetables, consumers can also get delicacies for Aidilfitri such as ketupat, rendang, lemang and various traditional cakes for their festive needs,” said Abdul Rashid in a statement after launching the pre-Syawal edition of the Agro Madani sale programme at Fama headquarters yesterday.

He said Fama would ensure a sufficient supply of goods at all its marketing outlets throughout the programme.

According to him, until March 31, the MADANI Agro Sales programme had been carried out at 1,737 locations across the country, involving 21,806 entrepreneurs, which resulted in savings for customers worth RM10.5 million. — Bernama
