Ministry plans to hold Rahmah sales programme more frequently
KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak is considering to hold the Rahmah Sales Programme more frequently than now, and also to extend its reach further.
In stating this, KPDN Sarawak enforcement chief Peter J Berinus Agang said such a move would ensure a continued positive impact on the community, particularly during critical periods such as Ramadan.
“While maintaining our current efforts, we’re exploring the potential of meeting the demands from the local community leaders for more of such programmes, meant to help the people in various localities,” he told reporters when met at the launch of a Rahmah Sales Programme at Masjid Jamek Sarawak here yesterday.
The Rahmah Sales Programme is aimed at helping the communities, especially the B40 groups, obtain essential goods at reasonable prices.
At present, it is being run twice a month. On the nationwide level, the programme covers 222 parliamentary constituencies, with 31 in Sarawak alone.
“During Ramadan, we’ve conducted a total of 114 Rahmah Sales programmes across the state, out of which 38 are mobile sales, ensuring accessibility even in the remote areas,” said Peter.
Organised by KPDN Sarawak in collaboration with the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) and strategic partner Everrise, the programme offers savings of up to 30 per cent on daily necessities.
Items with price discounts include chicken, fish, eggs, cooking oil, flour, rice, vegetables, fruits, and non-edible essentials.
The event yesterday marked the second time that Masjid Jamek Sarawak had hosted the programme, with the first being conducted during the Maal Hijrah (Islamic New Year) last year.
