President: Empowering Dayak women remains core of SIDS’ mission
SIBU: Every member of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) must always focus on education, empowerment, human capital development and cultural preservation in upholding the core mission of this Dayakwomen association.
In highlighting this, the president Dato Alice Jawan Empaling also pointed this out as a responsibility of all SIDS leaders.
“The empowerment of Dayak women remains the core of our mission.
“We need to support Dayak women for them to reach greater heights across various aspects of leadership,” she said in her opening remarks for SIDS Sibu’s 32nd annual general meeting (AGM) at a hotel here yesterday.
It was attended by some 200 Sibu SIDS members, including those representing the subbranches of Passin, Penasu, Rantau Panjang and Sibu Town.
Adding on, Alice hailed the existence of the Tan Sri Empiang Jabu Research Chair and the Barbara Mendu Bay Education Fund as ‘reflective of the association’s vision of empowering Dayak women’.
The permanent secretary to the Ministry of Transport Sarawak also emphasised on the importance of unity and teamwork among the members and also their respective communities, in ensure the good ongoing progress of SIDS.
On another matter, Alice also said only one branch of SIDS had yet to conduct its AGM.
“I was told that they had planned for the AGM to be held at the end of this month,” she added.
Meanwhile at the AGM, it was announced that Angelyn Uchi Maseng would remain as SIDS Sibu chief for the 2024-2026 term, to be assisted by deputy chief Monica Giri, secretary Elizabeth Raymond, assistant secretary Claudia Dieo, treasurer Mundun Undau, assistant treasurer Priscilla Bunsi, and publicity officer Adina Sana.
The committee members are Loryna Leman, TR Catherine Tamoh, Magdaline Sigi, Senorita Salleh, Doreen lbrahim, Sandra Jawang, Florence Sigi and Regina Emu.
The event yesterday also included a seminar titled ‘Leadership Characteristics’ conducted by Alice, and a session by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) conducted by Deri Ng.
It was also highlighted that SIDS Sibu would host its 35th anniversary celebration this Sept 28 at the Kingwood Hotel here.
Later, there was a presentation of donations to SIDS member and chieftain Rebah Sembilan and fellow villagers from her seven-door longhouse in Tutus, Batang Igan, who lost their units to a fire that struck in February.
