Hope Place supports resilient widow of two kids with food, educational aid
Siti Zaiton Bujang, whose husband died of a stroke last year, has to be less extravagant in her spending this Hari Raya, more so with two schooling children to feed.
The 51-year-old widow is receiving help in terms of basic food aid and school supplies for her children aged 11 and 13 from Hope Place Kuching.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) said in a statement yesterday that it had provided her husband with special milk supplements and adult diapers prior to his passing.
“Siti operates a very famous beef noodle stall at a coffee shop in Sekama Road. At a young age, she learnt about business and being independent, not depending on others.
“Working as a helper at a food stall when she was young, it gave her the experience and knowledge to start up a beef noodle stall on her own.
“Even when she was taking care of her bedridden husband, Siti still opened her noodle stall desperately trying to earn some income,” said Hope Place.
During this Ramadan month, Siti wakes up early every day to prepare all ingredients to run her stall at 6am.
“After observing 100 days of mourning, Siti has motivated herself to push forward, knowing that it’s up to her alone to take care of her children,” said Hope Place.
While keeping her chin up, trying to be brave, Siti looks a little sad and forlorn without her husband, observed Hope Place.
“Understanding her loss, her siblings often come to her house, bringing food and ‘sungkei’ together.
“Her two married daughters will also be coming to her house this week for Aidilfitri, bringing Siti’s grandkids to liven up the household,” Hope Place added.
The NGO welcomes all donations and will issue receipts upon request.
Individuals can donate directly to Hope Place’s Maybank account (511289001160) or by scanning the S Pay Global QR code on its Facebook page.
