2nd Borneo Building Modelling talk attracts 200 participants
Some 200 attendees participated physically and remotely for the 2nd Borneo Building Information Modelling (BIM) Symposium held recently at Curtin University Malaysia.
In his opening address, deputy pro vice-chancellor Prof Vincent Lee Chieng Chen said the symposium aims to bring together industry practitioners, engineers, and academics from China, Vietnam, Singapore, and Europe to share and discuss their experiences utilising building information in design such as drones, virtual reality, and augmented reality.
“The roles of engineers and scientists of the future are pivotal in addressing the world’s societal and environmental challenges through innovation and the adoption of new technologies.
”Hence, students are encouraged to learn as much as they can from industry professionals sharing their insights, best practices, and outline the course of furthering BIM implementation in Malaysia and globally,” he said.
He further mentioned that the symposium is Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to advancing BIM in academia and industry.
The symposium heard from keynote speakers who shared their knowledge in their respective fields within the BIM framework, namely Prof Sambit Datta from Curtin University Australia, Singapore’s Eric Tan from United Tec Construction Pte Ltd, Malaysia’s Shazwan Ehsan from PCSS Consultancy Sdn Bhd, and Veitnam’s Dr Ngo Ngoc Tri from the University of Da Nang.
Other keynote speakers were Turkey’s Dr Umit Isikdag from Beykent Univerity, Netherlands’ Dr Aidin Nobahar Sadeghifam from Byldis B.V., and China’s Prof Wang Chen from Huaqiao University.
The event was jointly organised by the Faculty of Engineering and Science’s Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, Curtin Highway Infrastructure Research and Innovation Hub in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Health Science’s Department of Built Environment and Curtin Civil Society.
