MSU continues tradition of zakat distribution to students, staff
SHAH ALAM: Management and Science University (MSU) upholds a longstanding tradition of zakat (tithe) distribution that is pivotal to all students and staff, embodying MSU’s commitment to social responsibility through its ‘Giving and Grateful’ campus culture.
According to the university, the zakat distribution has always been a highlight of its annual ‘Ihya Ramadan’ programme, and this year, MSU has expanded its reach significantly.
The recent MSU Ihya Ramadan 2024 saw Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir making his inaugural visit to MSU’s main campus, where he distributed zakat to 599 deserving undergraduate students, providing financial assistance endowed by Yayasan MSU.
The recipients included students from various faculties and programmes.
In his speech, the minister commended MSU’s commitment of providing quality education to students from 65 countries.
“It is a privilege to be at MSU, one of the country’s most prestigious private universities.
“With over 20,000 students from 65 countries, the university embodies our national commitment to internationalize higher education, making it a centre for global learners,” said Zambry in his speech.
Also present were MSU president Prof Tan Sri Dato Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, Higher Education Ministry (MoHE) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, MoHE deputy secretary-general (Policy) Datuk Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Sufian, Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman, Malaysian Qualifications Agency CEO Datuk Prof Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran, and MSU vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Junainah Abd Hamid.
Mohd Shukri, in his speech, said MSU was deeply honoured by Zambry’s focus and support for private higher education institutions in the country.
“We at MSU are committed to leveraging this support to solidify our position as a global hub for excellence in professional and soft skills developments, while remaining firmly rooted in cultural values,” he said.
In the spirit of Aidilfitri, MSU hosted a ‘Cahaya Aidilfitri’ event to bring a taste of home to campus.
In a statement, the MSU said it had always placed high value on cultural competency, running campaigns and programmes to familiarise home and international students with the nation’s diverse customs, thus enriching their learning experiences.
As part of these efforts, the Media and Strategic Communication Department of MSU had produced short films like ‘Yang Hilang’ for this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri, emphasising values and heritage through collaborative efforts of students and staff from various departments and faculties.
