KAPIT: Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan has pledged to do his best to resolve all issues in his constituency, but says patience is needed on the part of the constituents.

Speaking during a recent visit to Rumah Sumbang, he assured that any and all issues affecting the people will be looked at and forwarded to the relevant authorities for resolution.

“I will do my best for everyone in my constituency. What I am asking for is patience while I deal with the authorities.

“In Katibas, there are 162 JKKK (village security and development committee). I can’t do everything all at once as it depends on the existing conditions and provisions. “What I promise is that I will look at all issues faced by the people,” he said.

Accompanying Lidam on his visit were Ambrose Abong Bugek who is political secretary to Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and councillor Fatimah Ilam. Apart from Rumah Sumbang, the assemblyman and his team also visited another longhouse, Rumah Surie, as well the site of the Sungai Musah bridge to check on its construction progress.

Meanwhile, Kapit Public Works Department engineer Jawa Gara when contacted said construction of the Bailey bridge at Sungai Musah is currently at 85 per cent completion.

“We expect the bridge to be ready on or before May 20 this year,” he said.

The 80-metre Bailey bridge is an interim measure to replace the original bridge which collapsed in September last year. That same month, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, announced that the Sarawak government had approved RM4.8 million for the construction of the Bailey bridge, access roads and other transportation needs for folks on both sides of the river.
