KGS-OBYU Inter Team Match Play offers bigger prize payout this year

KUCHING: Kelab Golf Sarawak’s (KGS) most anticipate­d and prestigiou­s inter team competitio­n, the KGS-OBYU Inter Team Match Play Championsh­ip, is back with a bigger prize pool.

Sponsored by OBYU Holdings Sdn Bhd for the seventh consecutiv­e year since 2018, the champions shall receive RM20,000, which was an increase of RM5,000 from last year’s edition, the challenge trophy and medals.

The runners-up will receive RM12,000 (an increase of RM9,000) and trophy, third placing RM9,000 (RM6,000) and trophy while the fourth placing will get RM6,000 (RM3,000).

KGS tournament chairman and captain Ting Kee Suen said the competitio­n is now open for entries, adding that they are looking forward to hosting 16 teams on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“The entry fee is RM2,160 per team and the competitio­n is based on a double knock-out system.

“Competitio­n will start on June 8 and ends on July 21 and we are expecting two-time winners Warriors (2022 and 2023) to defend their crown and go for a hat-trick this year,” he told The Borneo Post after receiving the challenge trophy from OBYU Holdings Sdn Bhd founder Tan Sri Bustari Yusuf at his office along Jalan Ban Hock yesterday.

Also present during the handing over ceremony were OBYU Holdings group chairman Dato Ahmadi Yusoff and group deputy chairman Hafitz Khalid while representa­tives from KGS included general manager Terence Lee Yeow Kong, activities manager Shirleyna Kim Dupo and administra­tion/operation executive Evelyn Stephen.

A team shall consist of a minimum of eight players and a maximum of 15 players and the competitio­n is open to all active KGS amateur golfers with a valid WHS course handicap of 24 and below for Matang/Santubong Nine (Handicap Index 0f 22.1 and below).
