AirAsia cancels more flights over safety concerns
AirAsia has cancelled more of its flights due to safety concerns over the eruption of Mount Ruang in Indonesia.
Among the 12 flights cancelled yesterday was the 1am MiriKuching flight, while the rest involved those affecting Sabah, according to the airline’s update issued at 2am yesterday.
AirAsia has been rescheduling flights since Thursday morning, and it had reinstated some of the cancelled flights, but decided to call some of them off again yesterday due to safety concerns.
In this regard, the carriers informed that it had notified all the affected passengers.
“Guests who are travelling to and fro from the affected destinations are encouraged to check their registered emails and mobile phones for cancellation notifications, and to check their latest flight status via airasia. com/flightstatus.”
AirAsia added that it was also making options available to guests whose flights were cancelled.
The Borneo Post also observed the situation at Kuching International Airport (KIA) yesterday, where the passengers appeared calm despite the cancellation of several flights.
Many of them checked the flight information monitors regularly, and also getting updated via their smartphones.
Meanwhile, when contacted by The Borneo Post, Malaysia Airlines said as at yesterday, it only cancelled five flights involving the Sabah sector.
They had also commenced the gradual reinstatement of flights to and from Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, in response to the prevailing weather conditions.
Malaysia Airlines also said that it would continue to provide updates via its social media platforms.
“We would also be communicating directly to affected customers should there be any changes to their flights.”
In a statement released on Thursday, the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) said affected customers wishing to change or cancel their flights could do so via the ‘My Booking’ section on the Malaysia Airlines’ website.
