KUCHING: The iconic song ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’ by veteran singer Andrewson Ngalai will be rebranded through a new music video.

The latest version will be covered by his son Rickie, also a popular Iban singer.

The launch of the new music video will take place at the opening ceremony for the Gawai Dayak Bazaar (GDB)@Aeroville 2024, this May 1, with the event scheduled to kick off at 11am.

The GDB will be running at the Aeroville Mall, Jalan Stutong Baru here, for 12 days, open daily from 11am to 11pm.

“The bazaar, run in collaboration with Aeroville Mall, will also be jointly organised by Biu Biu Event and Kelab Seni Budaya Anak Sarawak (Keserak), and will feature 13 Dayak singers from Kaban Music Production (KMP) as the event’s daily crowdpuller,” said GDB@Aeroville 2024 event consultant Anderson Dato during a press conference here yesterday.

It is informed that the KMP and Anderson’s company Borneo MA Smart Vendors Sdn Bhd are among the sponsors of the bazaar.

Adding on, Anderson said the original music video of the song ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’ was produced in 2000.

“The rebranding is the brainchild of the original singer and composer Andrewson, now a Penghulu in Selangau.

“Andrewson suddenly felt that the music video needed a new breath of life. Moreover, some of the original scenes in the footage are no longer suited for the current audience.

“His son Rickie will not only cover the song, but also star in the new music video. In the rebranded version, people can still dance the ‘poco-poco’ to its beat and tune.

“While the tune will be injected with some orchestra music, the cha cha beat is still maintained. The rebranded version also has a faster tempo,” he said.

Anderson pointed out at the music video was shot at five different locations in Sibu and Bintulu, and took five days to complete.

“The rebranded version will be uploaded on YouTube and TikTok platforms, as well as to be made available as a mobile ringtone.

“It will also be promoted on other social media platforms, as well as at various events held at food courts and malls,” he said.

It was also announced that Rickie would hold a meet-andgreet session with fans this May 7, as he would be appearing at an event where Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang would officiated at.

At the press conference yesterday, Anderson was accompanied by GDB events organising chairperson Padila Jiahong and beautician Chen Nie Bunyau, both from Biu Biu Beauty Shop.

Padila said she was motivated to assist the needs of small traders when initiating the organisation of the bazaar, as well as to expose their hidden talents.

“Those in this community, including the mall owners, management staff, traders and customers, need to come together in order to assist each other.

“Nothing beats unity and togetherness as members of a community.”

Apart from singing performances by the 13 artistes from KMP and four freelance singers, other highlights at the bazaar would include ‘tuak’ (traditional rice wine) making demonstrations by a popular tuak-maker Tabari @ Saluma Megong from Betong, to be held on May 3, 6 and 8, with the session commencing at 2pm on each day.

“The GDB will be the first of its kind to be held at the mall.

“There will be around 30 booths promoting a variety of food and beverages, products and services,” said Padila. The GDB will conclude with the ‘Final KMP Aeroville Gawai Idol’ on May 12, to be running from 1pm to 3pm.

Moreover, KMP would also unveil its new ‘Gawai song’ on May 4 at the venue.
