Agrobank receives RM4 mln additional Sarawak Micro Credit Scheme funds

KUCHING: Agrobank has received Sarawak Micro Credit Scheme additional funds worth RM4 million from the state government.

The handing-over ceremony was held in conjunctio­n with Agrobank Sarawak’s Festive Open House held here recently, according to a release.

“Such additional funds channelled by the state government will benefit the B40 (low-income) group and local entreprene­urs in Sarawak, and empower microentre­preneurs and small and medium enterprise­s (SMEs),” said Agrobank president and chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin in a release.

He said Agrobank was committed to not only allocating funds to the agricultur­al sector, but also offering financing services to the service sector, especially those contributi­ng to the food chain system.

He added that the additional funds would open up more opportunit­ies for players in various industries, including agricultur­e and fisheries, to help boost the national economy.

On hand to present the cheque was advisor to the Ministry of Internatio­nal Trade, Industry and Investment, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, also Minister for Internatio­nal Trade, Industry and Investment, witnessed the ceremony.

Agrobank and its strategic partner Sarawak State Farmers Organisati­on have been collaborat­ing in developing the agricultur­e and fisheries industries in Sarawak.

Sarawak Micro Credit Scheme is a financial assistance in terms of soft loans to B40 entreprene­urs and SMEs.
