MoHE: MY AI NEXUS seeks to foster networking, collab in AI field
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Nexus (MY AI NEXUS) 2024 launched last Friday aims to foster networking and collaboration among higher education institutions (IPTs), industry, government agencies and individuals engaged in the AI field.
The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) in a release said the event, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre, was a collaborative effort between the ministry and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
“MY AI NEXUS brought together esteemed AI experts, universities, industries, government agencies and other interested parties to promote the wider accessibility of AI in Malaysia.
“It also aimed to showcase AI products developed by researchers from IPTs and industry professionals through exhibitions and forums,” it said.
On the agenda were some significant developments, such as the formation of the Malaysian Artificial Intelligence Consortium, the AI Talent Roadmap for Malaysia 2024-2030, and the introduction of UTM’s Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) – the first of its kind in Malaysia.
“The establishment of the first FAI in Malaysia highlights the collaboration between MoHE and UTM.
“The FAI was successfully implemented in three months thanks to the coordinated efforts of MoHE, UTM and other relevant parties,” said the ministry.
MoHe also said the formation of the Malaysian Artificial Intelligence Consortium (MAIC) has increased the ecosystem for research and innovation while also serving as an enabler for the higher education sector to apply artificial intelligence.
“The goal of this consortium is to foster innovation and impact while advancing AI excellence, information sharing, and collaboration across academic institutions, government agencies and industry in Malaysia,” it added.
