Ntv7 Golden awards 2012 announces its top five nominees in the drama and non-drama categories.

THE second bi-annual Golden Awards announced its top five nominees in the drama and non-drama categories in its third press conference held last week.

Held every two years, the Golden Awards, which is organised by Ntv7, honours the outstandin­g work of talents in the Malaysian Chinese television entertainm­ent industry who have contribute­d in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes as well.

For Golden Awards 2012, there will be a total of 23 awards up for grabs in three categories: drama, non-drama and viewers’ choice. New awards introduced this time are Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Meanwhile, the Best News And Current Affairs Programme Host Award has been cancelled this year due to lack of entries.

Leading the pack is 8TV crime thriller The Adjusters, which has received nomination­s for Best Drama, Best Actor (Zac Lee), Best Supporting Actor (Chan Fong), Best Theme Song, Best Director (Simon Long and Tham Siew Ngoy) and Best Original Screenplay. Meanwhile, the most nominated individual­s are 8TV’s Cheryl Lee and Ntv7’s Chan Wei Wei, with three nomination­s each.

Voting for the nominees in the Viewers’ Choice category is open to the public via both SMS and the Golden Awards 2012 official website (ntv7.com.my/goldenawar­ds) from Aug 1 to Sept 17.

The five dramas nominated for Best Drama may be viewed on Tonton (tonton. com.my) for free from now till Sept 11: Goodnight DJ 2 (now till July 17), The Adjusters (July 17-31), A Time To Embrace (Aug 114), Forget Me Not (Aug 15-28) and Footprints In The Sand (Aug 28-Sept 11). Malaysia’s Cheryl Lee and Singapore’s Bryan Wong will again be hosting the award presentati­on ceremony, which will again be held at Putrajaya Internatio­nal Convention Centre (PICC) on Sept 22.

The red carpet will kick off at 7pm, while the live telecast will start at 7.30pm. The awards show will go live at 8.30pm and end at 11.30pm.
