Training teachers

-

CAMBRIDGE English For Life makes a significant contribution to ensuring that teachers in Malaysia not only have appropriate subject knowledge, but are also well-organised, professional, skilled and dedicated.

They do this through a tutorial programme to prepare candidates for the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers (CIDTT). This qualification is a professional teaching diploma that sets international performance standards for the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be a competent, confident and effective teacher or trainer.

The CIDTT qualification is awarded by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) which is one of the world’s leading providers of international qualifications.

Part of the University of Cambridge in the UK, CIE has been conducting international examinations and assessments since 1863 and currently offers programmes in over 150 countries.

Candidates can therefore be confident that the qualification has value and actually means something.

Teaching can be a highly rewarding profession, but it can also be very demanding. The CIDTT programme prepares aspiring teachers (or those looking to refresh their skills and expertise) with the tools necessary to excel in the classroom whatever challenges present themselves.

The CIDTT programme provides a clear and detailed framework for developing effective teaching methods, strategies and skills, as well as the means to tackle a wide variety of teaching and learning situations.

The qualification is divided into four modules covering the key areas of teaching theory and practice:

- Design: Planning and Preparation

- Practice: Teaching and Learning in Action

- Assessment: Assessing Progress and Achievement

- Evaluation: Improving Teaching and Learning

These modules reflect the key stages in what is termed the cycle of teaching and learning and provide focus for teachers on the importance not only of subject knowledge but also planning, delivery, regular and varied assessment of learning and reflection on practice. The fundamental truth is that subject knowledge alone is not enough to make an effective teacher, neither is being able to stand in front of one of the most critical audiences you are ever likely to find and perform successfully.

In order to be truly successful, effective teachers must be able to pull both of these together with first-class planning skills. They must also be able to assess the extent to which their academically diverse audience with a wide-range of ability levels not only understands what is being covered, but are also able to put the principles into practice. Finally, effective teachers must be able to be self-critical. They must look closely at what they have delivered in every lesson and assess the effectiveness of their lesson in achieving its aims.

CIDTT qualified teachers are both skilled and dedicated, inspirational and well-organised. The diploma programme has prepared them to face the full range of challenges that the modern classroom presents.

The CIDTT tutorial programme is conducted over three months, with classes held during weekends. There are two intakes each year, usually in February/ March and July/August. For further information or to register your interest in the course please contact:
